Parents and Kids: Play Smart from the Start! A Town Hall meeting w/ Gov. Jennifer Granholm & Friends

Parents and Kids: Play Smart From the Start!
A Town Hall Meeting with Governor Jennifer M. Granholm and Friends
October 14, from 9:00-10:30 PM

This very special program will air statewide on all PBS affiliate stations.  This program will focus on how parents and caregivers can help their child connect for success by playing, talking and reading.

The 90 minute program will be broken into 3 half hour segments, including video clips from the documentary produced by Connections for Children. The 3 topics covered in the segments include:

Talking: Optimally children need to hear 45 million words and 500,000 encouraging statements by the time they are 4 years old!

Reading: This segment focuses on how to read with each age group and how parents can achieve this goal incrementally and not feel overwhelmed. Do’s and Don’ts of reading WITH children will be discussed.

Playing: Play Time is Connect Time. We’ll show parents and caregivers how to connect for success through play. Learn How Connecting With Your Kids Help Them Play Smart From The Start!

Panel participants will be the Governor, Dr. Joan Firestone, a national expert on brain development, community and business leaders, and other early childhood experts. During the opening and as panelists they will share their perspective and answer questions about why the years between birth to five are so important to a child's success in school and in life and what we can do to make sure that Michigan's most valuable resource, our children, are prepared for the future and ready to succeed.

This program will be taped "live" at 1:30 in the afternoon on October 14th at Grand Valley State University, Eberhard Center, 301 W. Fulton, Grand Rapids. If you are interested in being a participant in the audience of the Town Hall please send your name, phone number, affiliation, and email to: info@jjcommunicate.com using the subject line: "Panel Town Hall Audience" or you can fax the information to (616) 451-7038.
