Jackie Silberg’s book contains
over 200 “games” to play with infants, birth through 12 months. Some of
these “games” might more appropriately be referred to as “activities”,
“strategies” or simply parenting “suggestions”. Regardless of the title,
this book contains developmentally appropriate interactions between adults
and infants.
General developmental growth guidelines are presented for birth-six
months, and six-to twelve months, in the areas of: motor, auditory, and
visual skills; language and cognitive skills; and self concept skills.
The table of contents lists all “games” delineated by the baby’s age;
these same games are indexed by topic and materials. Each page contains a
specific activity, designating the target age, what the baby will learn,
and step-by-step activities. I was concerned, however, that some parents
may need a caution regarding the intended intensity level of physical
activity games, such as “Up and Down the Elevator”, “Bouncy, Bouncy” and
“Fly, Baby, Fly” (all 3-6 months).
Overall, this book provides good, basic activities which parents should be
encouraged to incorporate into the daily routine of their little one’s
life.
Many thanks for the opportunity to review this book.
Additional Review:
I am writing a summarization of the
above named book. I enjoy the book and I utilize it in the Baby & Me class
for Early On. The book has wonderful ideas and is well formatted
with the separation of age groups.
The pages are laid out for easy duplication for the families in class as
well as those with infants in Early On. It is also very parent
friendly and easy for the parents to look through and understand.
